The HALO system is the future of drilling!
HALO is an alignment system that is located in the ring of the hydro drill body that provides the operator with both a clear view of himself and the hole being dug. HALO utilizes a strip of LED indicators that are fully lit green, indicating that the drive is operating vertically. If the actuator moves out of the vertical position, a sequence of red and green indicators will illuminate, easily showing the operator the direction back to the vertical position.
Important information on selecting and connecting a hydro drill:
Selecting the right hydraulic drive model for different applications is very important. The hydraulic flow of the carrier machine determines the speed at which the drill will rotate. By selecting the flow range of your carrier machine from the table, you can determine which drive model will be most suitable.
Ideal drill rotational speeds:
General purpose drilling (except rocky soils) – in the ground with small diameter drills, requires higher speeds – 55-65 rpm or more.
Hard earth, clay, soft chalky rocks – drilling with medium diameter augers in harder soils and dense clay – 45-55 rpm.
Rock Drills – For drilling in rock formations, strength, not speed, is important.
Too much speed leads to overheating, causing the teeth to wear faster. Too much speed also prevents the teeth from digging into and breaking up rocky soil.
The ideal speed for rock drilling is 20-45 rpm.
Note to self! Effective drilling in rock requires significant downforce and torque. The use of an appropriate carrier machine is essential, but not all rock is suitable for drilling. The hydraulic pressure of the carrier machine – determines the amount of torque the machine will provide to the drill. Importance of torque for drills – the larger the diameter of the drill, the more torque (pressure) will be required.
